Do you pay much attention to the little word, “Into”? I mean, it can run right past you if you’re not careful. Here’s why I think you ought to give it a closer look.
Most of us Christians are rather happy that our spiritual new birth meant King Jesus has been born into us. Discovering why He loves living in us—it was His idea—is the best adventure in new life there could be! But there’s this other “into” that has my attention today, a kind of Part 2 of Into. It’s almost like Jesus, after His birth into us shouted, “But wait—there’s more! Watch this!” And in a breathtaking move that dazzled the heavens, He brought us into Himself—into life that had no beginning and has no end.
1 Peter 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Think of it: you’ve been born again into the living hope Himself. You live in the eternal, living land of inheritance Himself. This is why your hope never quite runs out; it’s replenished by Him in whom you live. He might say. “There are no shortages of hope around here, you know.” This is why what you will receive as an inheritance you already have. (See Ephesians 1:3) You live there, in your inheritance. You’ve been born into Him—the ultimate land of promise and plenty. Think about that.
And because of where you live, in Jesus, alive in the heavens already (See Ephesians 2:6), you are shielded by God’s power Himself right now. In this very moment. You. He didn’t build just a fence around you and hope you’ll tend it; He brought you into Himself. After He was born into you, you were born into Him. That’s where you live. That’s why “Into” is one of my favorite four letter words.
See you later.
